With the direct presence and on-site supervision of the Director of the Dormitory Affairs Department, Assistant Professor Muntadhar Jumaa Mahdi, who played a prominent role in managing and organizing safety procedures, the President of the University of Basra, Dr. Muhannad Jawad Al-Asadi, conducted a field visit to the Bab Al-Zubair campus on Wednesday, March 25, 2026. He was accompanied by the directors of the Administrative Affairs Department, the Dormitory Affairs Department, the Security Permits Department, and the Follow-up Department.

 

Professor Muntadhar Jumaa Mahdi emphasized that student safety is the department's top priority. He noted that a decision was made to evacuate the dormitories collectively and in an organized manner to ensure the safety and well-being of the students given the unstable weather conditions. He added that the evacuation process was carried out smoothly and in direct coordination with the relevant authorities, with all necessary arrangements made to ensure the safe return of students to their homes.

 

He also explained that the department's staff were present on the ground from the very beginning to monitor and supervise the evacuation process and ensure there were no emergencies, emphasizing that monitoring would continue until the situation was completely stable.

 

The visit aimed to assess the readiness of the university's facilities and their preparedness to face any potential emergency resulting from the adverse weather conditions, and to ensure that the necessary precautionary measures were in place to guarantee the safety of students and staff.

 

During his tour, the university president stressed the importance of raising the level of preparedness, directing security and civil defense personnel to exercise caution and vigilance, and to report any emergency immediately and directly, thus contributing to a rapid response and minimizing risks.

 

He also commended the efforts of the Dormitory Affairs Department, headed by Professor Muntadhar Jumaa Mahdi, praising his swift decision to evacuate the dormitories and his keenness to protect students and provide what was necessary to ensure their safety.

 

At the conclusion of the visit, His Excellency expressed his wishes for the safety and security of all university staff, emphasizing the university administration's commitment to providing a safe and stable environment, protecting its educational institutions, and serving our beloved country.
